About Us

The University of Houston Fort Bend County Small Business Development Center provides free, confidential business consulting and affordable training to entrepreneurs of small and emerging companies.  Our professional consultants meet one-on-one with your start-up or growing business to help you evaluate financing alternatives, develop loan packages, review and update business plans and strategies and access financial check ups and recommendations.  We can help you evaluate new market opportunities selling to the federal, state and local governments and to customers outside the United States.

What We Do

Consulting – UH Fort Bend County SBDC’s professional business consultants help you develop business plans and strategies, identify financing options, prepare loan packages and conduct financial check-ups using ProfitCents, a financial analytical software.  Our consultants have extensive, practical experience in varied fields including finance, retail and management. Workshops & Seminars – UH Fort Bend County SBDC’s affordable workshops and seminars cover business topics including marketing, finance, management, computers, bookkeeping and executive skills enhancement. Our instructors share their real-world experience with you in our state-of-the-art classrooms and computer labs. Our training seminars are designed to help broaden your business knowledge and improve your skills, whether you are new to entrepreneurship or a seasoned entrepreneur. Marco Ruiz

Marco R. Ruiz joined the University of Houston’s Ft. Bend Small Business Development Center in February of 2008 with the sole purpose to promote economic development in the Rosenberg-Richmond and surrounding areas of Fort Bend County area through community involvement, assisting existing business and aspiring entrepreneurs in the areas including but not limited to marketing, cash flow management and business development.

With 14 years progressive experience in the Capital and Equity Markets, Mr. Ruiz has managed client relationships with small businesses, municipalities and school districts. This experience has allowed him to provide many of his past and current clients a comprehensive understanding of the business cycles which ranges from operational, management and a marketing aspect. Lastly, Mr. Ruiz holds a Bachelorette of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix and an MBA from our Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
